Del K. Phillips was born on January 17, 1939, to George and Rosalie Phillips in Globe, Arizona. He was the youngest of 9 children. He is survived by 1 sibling, Connie Phillips Chansley, who throughout his life was not only his sister but also his best friend.
Growing up, Del also had 2 other best friends and also older nephews Gary and Bill. They became the Phillips trio and would go on to spend their entire lives joined at the hip. The Phillips trio took great pride in leading the Globe High School football team, class of 56-57, to its first, Class A State Football Championship. In 2015 they and their teammates were inducted into the GHS Hall of Fame.
In the summer of 1958, while driving down Broad St., he saw a pretty little thing walking home. He offered her a ride and would spend the next few months trying to convince her that he was the guy for her. On June 18, 1960, Del married his one true love, Becky Ramsey Phillips.
Del worked underground for a brief period (which he hated) but ultimately retired from Cyprus Miami Mine after 38 years of service as a welder/ lead tech.
Beginning in 1961, Del and Becky would go on to welcome 4 girls. Delene, Georgia, Tammy, and Trudy. They were his whole world. But life got even better when in 1983 they started having grandbabies. April, Maddison, Lauressa, Kyle, JT, DJ, Colten, Brittany, Jessica, Billie, Lizzy, Tyrel, and Lane. They were his “Baker’s ‘Dozen” and he was their POP.
His greatest joy in life was his family. He could be found in the bleachers a few times a week watching one of his grandbabies play something.. He also spent time hunting, fishing, and camping. Always with the family by his side. Del was devoted. His love ran deep, was fierce and unconditional.
Pop could fix anything whether it be broken down vehicle, kids bike or a broken heart. The only thing he could not fix was the recent deaths of his 2 little girls. Geogia Wolf 12/23/23 and Trudy Miller on 03/25/25.
4 kids, 13 grandkids, 28 great-grandkids and to his excitement, in
February, he found out #29 is due in October. Family! That is his legacy and for which he would want to be remembered.
We forever thank you and love you Pop for our wonderful lives.
“Your Phillips Nation”.
