GEORGE M. SWINNEY

George Maurice Swinney aka “Punk” passed peacefully in his home in the early morning hours of December 24, 2025, at the age of 88.

George was born on December 7, 1937, to Mary Lee (White) and Maurice Swinney in Lampasas, Texas and moved to Arizona in 1939. He married his high school sweetheart Jeanette Carpenter on September 4, 1959, and they were inseparable for 33 years until her passing in 1992. He was a 1956 graduate of Miami High School, served 8 years in the United States Naval Reserves with an honorable discharge in 1963 and later attended the University of Arizona. He worked in the local mines until he retired in 2002. He was active in the Globe/Miami community as a 4-H Leader, Little League coach, Rodeo Committee member, member of the Choir Boys motorcycle club and even threw his hat in the ring for City Councilman at one point. He was an avid reader and loved to share his knowledge with others.

George was a family man. He leaves behind his sister Lura Beavers, Children, Chris, Georgia, Andy (wife Heidi) and Aaron (wife Christine). Grandchildren, Joshua (Amber), Christopher, Laramie, Morgan (Kelsey), Caden, Teagan, Trevin, Chandler, Connor and Kennedy. Great grandchildren, Katelyn, Liam, California, Chloe, Ciara, Harlow, Mannix, Blakelynn and great-great grandson Tony.

George was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, his parents Mary Lee and Maurice, his sister Sue Stamper, and his oldest granddaughter Cassandra.

Big George will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
