Rita Mary
Green
Jul 1, 1945 — Aug 7, 2026
Globe, Arizona
Rita Mary Burback Green passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Friday, August 7,2026. Born in Orange County, Florida, on July 1,1945. Rita grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and was the oldest of nine children.
Rita was a true free spirit who lived with fierce independence, curiosity, and heart. She loved deeply and stubbornly and was a loyal and loving friend to those fortunate enough to know her. She loved her country, motorcycles, adventure, music, and the unconventional, always following her own road.
Rita had an insatiable curiosity about the world around her. Intelligent and observant, she was always eager to learn something new and never lost her sense of wonder. She could find fascination in the people, places, and little unexpected moments around her, including the simple pleasure of a good rainstorm.
For 40 years, Rita worked as a nurse, a profession she considered her calling. Caring for others was central to who she was, and she brought compassion, knowledge, strength, and dedication to the people entrusted to her care.
Music was woven throughout her life. She sang, played guitar and piano, and found joy in both making and listening to music. She was also a devoted dog grandma, a motorcycle, enthusiast, an adventurer, and someone with a serious sweet tooth. Every now and then, she could even be found enjoying a little Arizona scorpion hunting.
Of all the roles Rita held in her life, being a mother was the one closest to her heart. Her only child was her greatest love, and so much of what Rita did throughout her life was rooted in her devotion to her daughter. Those who knew her best knew just how fiercely she loved her, and how much of Rita's world revolved around making sure her daughter was cared for protected and loved.
Rita never cared much for fitting neatly into anyone else's idea of how life should be lived. She was unconventional, independent, musical, adventurous, and entirely herself.
She leaves behind her only child, Maia Green, her eight siblings, extended family, friends, and many others whose lives she touched.
Rita spent 81 years living boldly, loving fiercely, and following her own road. She never stopped being wholly herself.
She took care of people and still rode her own road.
Her voice, her music, her curious mind, her stubborn spirit, and her fierce love will remain with all who knew her.
